NES S4 R5 Review

CoRe Prototype With Another NEO Podium!

The fifth round of the NEO Endurance Series Season 4 was taking place at the famous and challenging Circuit de Spa-Franchorchamps. CoRe SimRacing and its line-ups had to take massive compromises this round as 2 of 3 entries did not finish. On the other hand, Maxime Pauly and Santeri Kallunki did very well and were able to finish their Honda HPD machine in 3rd position after an eventful six hours race.

Ricardo qualifed the GTE Orange entry in a promising 3rd position. The CoRe Prototype entry had to start from 9th this time. The start went off pretty safe and Santeri, who did the start for the CoRe HPD car, was able to advance few positions. With Janne on Ricardo’s side, the race for the GTE guys was about to be nice as the pace was there, but unfortunately the race has ended quick for them after traffic caught up in Blanchimont and made Ricardo lose control over his vehicle. Giving PRT’s GTE entry an unintentional tap while trying to recover the death spin, the race for CoRe GTE Orange ended bigtime in the conrete wall. With that setback, Santeri and Maxime were the only entry in the field of the team now to get some good points. After the second pitstop procedure, Maxime took over and recovered onto the 6th position in class and few minutes later, up to 4th position. The race took its way and challenged the CoRe SimRacing drivers in every way. Tough situations, close calls and a lot of incidents points made the stewards work hard to keep the racing clean. In the last third of the race with Maxime still behind the wheel, the team was able to breath leading air for a short time before Santeri took over, again. The battle was on with the Radicals Online HPD and a promising podium position was in sight. In the last minutes of the race Santeri gave everything and could leave Radicals Online behind – going for a chase against Thrustmaster Mivano was his next step. Going side by side towards the finish line, Santeri sadly could not get the 2nd place but in the end he was happy with the podium position finishing in a well deserved 3rd position.

Despite the tough setback of the CoRe Orange GTE entry, the Prototype team made the best out of the drama. “From 9th to 3rd and being 2 seconds of the winner PRT is just so good. With a proper Q setup we would have been able to go for the win.” – said Santeri after he photofinish’d with Mivano over the line. Maxime was definitely happy with the outcome : “We did our best today considering we started P9. Thanks to Santeri and the team for this awesome result!” The final round of this NEO season will be the 24h of LeMans. The RaceSpot broadcast of this race can be found here.
