SCO S2 R4 Review
Victory in PC & GTE in P5!
The fourth round of the Sports Car Open 2 season was held at the Circuit Of The Americas. It was a successful race into the sunset for the CoRe Prototype Challenge line-up which was enforced by Carl Jansson alongside Maik Paluch this time by. The GTE entry was filled with Janne Kiuru and Thomas Arends – they were able to end the tough race in 5th position after they got caught up in few hard incidents.
Strong qualifying performance from Janne – a solid lap time for the 2nd place on the grid in GTE, right behind the leader Williams, was set by him. Carl, who was doing the fast lap in the HPD, ended up on P3. He could not gain the full potential of the cloud which made the track significantly faster. Incidents in the first turn made the second CoRe GTE car sadly retire after a spinning car could not be avoided. Carl immediately attacked AVA and Inertia in front but fell back to P5 after he got caught up in a slow down early on. A triple stint on the same set of tyres and a fantastic drive by Carl made the CoRe PC HPD car lead the field after all. Thomas and Maik took over for the next stints.
Thomas struggled a little bit to get his pace together – mainly focused on the VRS Qualifiers, he got also caught up in unlucky incidents. A damaged car as a result of that made the car fell back few positions. Also Maik had to face troubles despite a successful first stint. Gaining a 20 seconds gap on AVA behind, the gap vanished after Maik got held up by lapped cars and hit an anticut in the esses. With no damage though, Maik finished his double stint. Jumped by AVA in the pits, Maik gave over to Carl who was about to fight back to the lead. With an amazing ending fight against AVA in the HPD, Carl brought home the win. Thomas had to give up a P3/P4 and ended up in 5th position.
The PC guys were happy with their second win of the season : “Fantastic drive by Carl, he did everything right. His performance was great and also the setup was just working perfectly.” – Maik said after the race.” Thomas was not satisfied with the result in GTE : “I forgot how bad it is to nurse a damaged car home. We could have kept P3 without those issues.” The next race on the SCO2 calendar will be Interlagos. The standings in the season are still tight in the Prototype Challenge category.
