SCO S1 R5 Review

CoRe are the SCO GTC Champions!

The final round of the iRacing Sports Car Open was held at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace or also known as Interlagos for a four hours race. CoRe SimRacing with its two entries in GTE and GTC were able to provide an exciting last race in this series. Janne Kiuru alongside Maik Paluch in the GTE entry finished the turbulent race in 3rd securing them the 2nd position in the championship standings. Maxime Pauly and Jere Pääkkönen on the other hand finished the season finale in 2nd position and therefor secured the championship in the GTC division!

Jere qualified their Mercedes AMG GT3 machine on the second position on the grid while Janne was only able to set a time for a 4th position. But nevertheless both entries showed strong pace early on after the green flag was waved. Jere was able to continue chasing down the leading SRT car while being followed by Vendaval’s GT3 Ferrari behind. Janne sticked to his 4th position trying to hold the gap towards Buschfink, ABRacing and Vendaval in front. Due a driving error from Buschfink, Janne advanced to P3 and started to open up the seconds in between. After Jere was able to breath leading air up in front for a short period of time he gave the car over to Maxime. Janne also gave the car over to Maik. Suddenly Vendaval was in front after the GTE guys did jump ABRacing in pits and Maik tried to close up the gap. Sadly an incident between Vendaval and CoRe GTE happend when both cars came closer. Few laps later Maik spun out of the Senna-S, too. Falling back to P3 though, Maik was able to finish the race safely. Maxime finished the race in second and secured the championship by one point.

I would have been happy with one race win, though!” – Janne joked after Maik crossed the finish line. “It would have been nice to see when S.Kekkonen would have catch Maik for a battle. But with his late mistake, it’s maybe better like this.” On the other hand Maxime had a good reason to celebrate : “It was a season with ups and downs, but in the end it went out better than expected. Thanks to my team mates for all the effort!” That was the first season of the Sports Car Open and it was definitely not the last one. The next event organized by Ronald Großmann and Dominik Engel will be a new one-timer event : The 10h of Suzuka. The broadcast of this race can be found here.
