BGT 2017 R2 Review
CoRe With P2 & P6 at Brands Hatch!
The second round of the 2017 iRacing Blancpain GT Series was held at the british Brands Hatch circuit for an unique 90 minute race. CoRe SimRacing Orange with Frederik Rasmussen and Isaac Price behind the wheel took pole position while the CoRe SimRacing Silver machine with Thomas Arends and Janne Kiuru qualified in a strong 4th position on grid. After 1.5h of tough racing, CoRe brought home a P2 and P6.
Coanda SimSport immediately could overtake the second positioned ineX Racing Blue car and started the early chase against Frederik who was leading the field down to the first couple of corners. Thomas went off quick too but had the JIM Racing Team car in the inside lane already. He had to let them pass through and stick with the 5th position. Klaus Kivekäs from Coanda kept the same pace drafting the danish CoRe driver opening a small gap for P3. Team Silver meanwhile was under pressure by ineX Racing Red and later on by Jesus Sicilia from DarContingo Racing Team. The race took a promising run for both CoRe entries despite a lot of incident and drama was going on around the track. A lot of drivers had to retire because of incidents points and crashes, therefor a couple of teams were camping in the pitlane already.
The JIM Racing team went for the first proper pitstop after circa 60 minutes of racing. As this was pretty early though, Frederik came in couple of laps later after a fantastic lead. Even laps before the final pit entry he could maintain an over one second gap to Kivekäs behind. With Isaac jumping in then the focus was on Coanda in their BMW Z4 who were going for another lap. As they took tires and were standing longer in the pits as a result, Isaac was maintaining the lead. On the other hand at the Silver entry, Janne was taking over from Thomas who presented a very consistent laptime show. But just a few moments later Janne already had to show his steel nerves after Bono Huis from Redline Green snapped back onto the race track after an incident in turn one. It was a breathtaking race after Isaac was giving the lead to Coanda who were closing up very fast. Janne kept his silver CoRe car on track too despite used tires and could defend against CORE Motorsports a lot. In the first turn CORE Motorsports maintained to go side by side and gained a deserved P5. The other Coanda SimSport car which was in an AMG was lurking behind too, but luckly Janne brought his car home in 6th while Isaac finished in a great 2nd position.
Those 90 minutes were definitely a tough one to watch, especially for all CoRe members who were firing up themselves every second. Isaac had to say : “We were prepared for a damage limitation round so to manage a second place was a huge surprise for us, owing to a great preparation by the whole team for the race.” For Team Silver Janne had to admit : “I have to thank Thomas for keeping the tires in good condition, but the tire drop was much bigger than we expected to the 2nd stint. So in the end P6 is just epic.” CoRe SimRacing with its Orange and Silver team is now leading in the overall championship with both line-ups. The next Blancpain GT race will be held next week already at Silverstone for another usual three hours race. The RaceSpotTV broadcast of this race can be found here.
